  • Trivia and Facts
When Prince Leopold is approached by Inspector Uhl, while hunting, to inform him of Eisenheim and Sophie's meetings, the Prince asks what they were seen doing together. The line about if they were seen "fornicating" was originally filmed as him saying "fucking" instead. It was later dubbed over in order to avoid an R-Rating in compliance with the MPAA's policy that the f-word not be used in reference to intercourse in a PG-13 film. You can however still see the Prince mouth out the original line.

Edward Norton did many of his own magic tricks, with the coaching of James Freedman. He worked with Edward Norton preparing him for his stage performances and acted as a hand double in numerous situations.

With the shoot date fast approaching and the female lead still open, director Neil Burger turned to Biel and put her through round after round of auditions. When she turned up to test-read opposite Norton, she was fully dressed in Period Piece attire that she had purchased out of pocket a few hours earlier, Edward Norton was impressed and so was the Director who eventually cast her as Sophie.

Jessica was 'banned' from the Gym during production. The director didn't want her to look to buff.

    Jessica Said
"...Being someone I'm not for a period of time and loving every minute of being in someone else's skin."

"Neil cut my gym privileges. It had taken me a year to shave off the muscle mass I developed doing Blade and Stealth back to back. It doesn't take much for me to get all puffed up again."

"Keira Knightley may be dying to get out of corsets, but I'm dying to get into one!"

"I’m always thinking about how difficult it is to obtain the parts I want, and how I’m losing roles to all these other girls—Keira Knightley and Scarlett Johansson, Rachel McAdams. All those really, really talented women who are doing movies that I’d like to be doing."

    They Said
"[Jessica's beauty] She's like one of those Slavic princesses."-Edward Norton

"In this film [The Illusionist] I worked with this lovely young actress named Jessica Biel. It's a lot more pleasant to wrestle with her than with Brad Pitt or Colin Farrell. I suddenly started to wonder what I'd been doing all these years. How did I forget that that's what I was supposed to be aiming at and get sidelined into all this other stuff?"
